It’s a wonderful week to walk around in the Garden. March winds are definitely bringing new delights to Woodlands, and our resident birds will welcome a soloist this weekend. On Saturday, March 21 at 4pm, we are proud to present the first of four seasonal concerts with cellist Jean Gay. Jean has created a delightful program of solo cello works interspersed with poetry, all chosen to welcome the glory of spring. Join Jean and poetry reader Val Blligh in the pavilion for this special event.

Woodlands Garden invites you to our 2nd Annual Youth Artist Market. At this one-day arts event kids in grades 2 – 12 sell their own artwork and crafts. The festival will be held in the meadow at Woodlands Garden on April 25th from 11am – 3pm. Rain date will be Saturday May 2nd.
The deadline to register for the Market is April 3rd, 2015.
In 2014 we welcomed potters, photographers, jewelry makers and bowtie and birdfeeder builders. This year we’re expecting more kinds of art from more artists. All proceeds from your art sales go to YOU, so bring change and a calculator! (Some of our 2014 artists took home over $100.)
Camellias abloom in hues of brilliant reds, gentle pinks and frosty white in a canvas of rich green and brown … and now a new flutter of color in our palette.
The Woodlands Garden bird committee has created a space for feeding and viewing our fine feathered friends. Our friend Marko Bajic captured their antics in our new bird meadow.
In the video below, we see the Tufted Titmouse, a White-Breasted Nuthatch, an American Goldfinch, a Pine Siskin, and a Pine Warbler in action:

The spicy suet in the Bird Meadow at the garden keeps the squirrels away, but is quite a hit with the birds. In this video, we see female and male Pine Warblers, a White Breasted Nuthatch (immature), and a female Red Bellied Woodpecker:
Here’s a video of a Carolina Chickadee, a Yellow-Rumped Warbler, and an Eastern Bluebird at the suet and sunflower seed feeders:
And a last one, of what we like to describe as a “very bright (and photogenic) Bluebird” to complete our little collection of videos from our bird meadow,

Come and take an end-of-winter stroll at our chirping new bird meadow. It’s a great place to learn about native plants and birds. You just might spot a bird we haven’t!
Woodlands Garden was honored to host two composers, a poet and a visual artist who created new works here commemorating the 1964 passage of the Wilderness Act. Listen to Wing’s poetry and Stewart and Eric’s music, and ponder Edie’s mobiles, all uniquely expressing the taste of wildness available to Woodlands visitors.
