SUMMARY:Wildflower Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a guided stroll through Woodlands Garden\, a 8 acre woodland sanctuary in Decatur\, where native wildflowers and deciduous azaleas put on a spectacular show in the spring. Along the trails\, you’ll learn about the diverse plant life that makes our urban ecosystem thrive. This event is co-hosted by Woodlands Garden\, the Intown Chapter of the Georgia Native Plant Society\, and Trees Atlanta. These groups are partners in Trees Atlanta’s work of improving and protecting Atlanta’s Urban forest. Register using this link. \nAbout the guides: \nKaren Lindauer\, retired from CDC\, has been an active volunteer at Woodlands Gardens and Mason Mill Park for a number of years. A long-time member of the GNPS\, she has a special interest in herbaceous native plants and invasive plant removal. Her volunteer efforts are based on information gained through facilitating GNPS native plant rescues and volunteering with George Sanko at the GSU Perimeter College Botanical Garden. Nothing is more rewarding than “liberating” a tree from English Ivy. She especially enjoys sharing the incredible diversity at Woodlands Gardens–a botanical gem right in Decatur. \nSharon Worsham is a retired science and environmental education teacher. She enjoys being co-chair of the Intown GNPS Certification Committee and seeing so many wonderful native plant habitats of those certified. Her love of wildflowers began hiking in the North Georgia Mountains with the Georgia Botanical Society and rescuing native plants for her own yard. She has a deep appreciation of Woodlands Garden as a former Board member and long-time volunteer\, where she helped write their trail guide and kiosk signage. Sharon enjoys sharing her enthusiasm for wildflowers and teaching workshops on foraging for wild foods.

SUMMARY:Qigong/Dao Yin Class: Mindful Movement Series
DESCRIPTION:Join us in the gentle movements of Dao Yin and Qigong amidst the serene beauty of Woodlands Garden. These ancient practices are designed to reduce stress and connect with nature\, offering a peaceful way to nurture both mind and body. This class is part of the Mindful Movement Spring Wellness Series at Woodland Gardens. \nOver the course of 8 weeks\, we will gather in the screened-in Pavilion at Woodlands Garden\, where we’ll practice Qigong and Dao Yin. These practices emphasize intentional breathing\, balance\, and gentle movements—both standing and on the ground—to help cultivate flexibility and harmony. As foundational practices for Tai Chi\, they offer an excellent introduction to this transformative discipline. Weather permitting\, we’ll also enjoy walking the grounds using forest bathing techniques\, guided by Neil’s deep knowledge of trees. \nThe fee for the session is $30 for Coop members and Woodlands’ Volunteers and Donors\, otherwise a $60 donation from the curious public is requested. Proceeds will be evenly donated to Woodlands Garden and the Tai Chi 4 LIFE Coop. Woodlands Garden is dedicated to preserving a woodland sanctuary that educates and inspires the community to connect with the natural world. The Tai Chi 4 LIFE Coop is a self-care cooperative that brings together teachers and students to offer practical methods for reducing stress through Tai Chi\, Qigong\, and other healing arts\, enhancing overall health and well-being. Register using this link. \nNeil\, a skilled instructor in Tai Chi\, Wild Goose Qigong\, Tree Gong\, Four Season Qigong\, Five Element Medical Qigong\, and Dao Yin\, has taught Qigong at the Decatur Recreation Center and is a founding member of the Tai Chi 4 LIFE Coop. In addition to his teaching\, Neil works as a consulting arborist\, combining his love for nature with his expertise in mind-body wellness.

SUMMARY:Forest Bathing Walk
DESCRIPTION:Register now for this gentle\, 2-hour Forest Bathing walk for ages 14 and up. Jess Boyd\, an ANFT-certified guide\, offers participants an opportunity to engage more deeply with nature and connect with others\, while unplugging from the fast pace of modern life. Forest bathing\, or shinrin-yoku\, was developed in Japan during the 1980s for preventative care. “Bathing” refers to the idea of absorbing your natural surroundings using all of the senses\, rather than anything to do with water. The practice is said to enhance well-being\, reduce stress and restore calm. \nNOTE: Minimum of 6 participants for this walk; registration required. \nThe walk fee is on a sliding scale from $15-30. Visit this link to register. \n
