DESCRIPTION:Forest bathing\, or shinrin-yoku\, is a Japanese form of nature therapy that is designed to connect you with nature. The word\, “bathing\,” refers to the idea of absorbing your natural surroundings using all of the senses\, rather than anything to do with water. Forest bathing aims to bring healing through connection to nature and trees. The practice is said to enhance well-being\, reduce stress and restore calm. \nA walk is a two to three hour experience during which you will be invited to connect with nature using your senses. \nThings you need to know: \n\nThese particular Forest Therapy walks are designed for adults\, so 14 is the minimum age.  There will be future walks available that will give our younger people the opportunity to enjoy the Forest in this way.\nDress appropriately for the weather\, and be sure to wear comfortable shoes.\nWalks are held rain or shine\, and cancelled if dangerous weather occurs.  The safety of our participants is of utmost importance!\nBring plenty of water!  It is better to over-estimate how much you will need instead of running out.\nYou are welcome to bring a snack\, in fact it is encouraged.

The program will focus on propagating Camellias from cuttings.  For many years\, Jim worked as a microbiologist at the CDC. He has devoted himself to growing and promoting Camellias across the Southeast.  Jim can be seen tending Dr. Morse’s original collection of Camellias as the resident Camellia guru at Woodlands and takes yearly trips to assist his friend\, Tom Johnson\, at Magnolia Plantation in Charleston\, SC.

Skyland Trail artists will create intricate tiny houses in the woods\, just for you to find. They could be tucked away below an old tree\, under a bridge or right along the trails. \nDiscover tiny fairy dwellings built from bark\, twigs\, branches\, seed heads\, leaves and other natural materials\, tucked in sheltered nooks along the garden’s paths. Colonies will include root fairies\, stump fairies\, fortress fairies\, moss fairies … and of course trolls under the bridge. \nYou can follow the fairy map (check out Facebook page for updates) or go exploring around the garden to seek out these enchanting fairy houses. We will also give you a whole bunch of clues to help you find them all! This year’s Fairy Celebration will include a host of fun activities and the ever-popular ‘Grand Summoning of the Fairies’ followed by the trail parade. \nVolunteers needed for this exciting event!
