SUMMARY:Educational Speaker: Kathryn Kolb
DESCRIPTION:Sunday “Atlanta Old Growth Forest” presentation is FULL. We have reached our maximum capacity and cannot accommodate any more attendees.\n\n \nThere are many other activities at Woodlands that we hope you will choose to attend.\nCheck them out on the Woodlands Garden calendar at:  http://www.woodlandsgarden.org/events/\n  \nSunday\, October 15 at 2:00pm \nCome join in during an educational presentation by Kathryn Kolb\, EcoAddendum\, entitled “Atlanta’s Old Growth and Original Forests”. \nAccidents of history gave Atlanta a forest unlike other major cities. Learn how our area retains many places that hold original forest remnants\, such as Woodlands Garden\, why they are so special\, and how to recognize these areas in your neighborhood or even your own backyard! \nSpace is limited so please RSVP to director@woodlandsgarden.org. \nPresentation details: \nEco-A’s Kathryn Kolb gives a short presentation on the Old Growth and Original Forests of metro-Atlanta\, then leads a naturalist walk in the Woodlands Garden\, which holds a small remnant of our region’s original forest. Atlanta is rare (if not unique) as one of very few of the world’s major cities that still retains parts its native forest\, and we can learn to recognize these areas in our neighborhoods and greenspaces. A high diversity of species\, indicator species\, and champion-sized trees all highlight this special quality in the Woodlands Garden. On our forest stroll (approx. 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile) Kathryn will highlight native species of trees and plants\, and describe how they fit into the story of this landscape that reaches back in time to the forest the Muscogee Creeks knew. She’ll share interesting facts about many native species\, and show how to “read” the forest landscape so you may recognize similar types of old growth or original forest in your neighborhood or even your backyard. \nBio: \nEcoAddendum Director and Master Naturalist Kathryn Kolb holds over 30 years of field experience in natural areas\, forests and wild lands of the Southeast. She has worked collaboratively on a wide range of environmental education and outreach projects over several decades with many regional environmental organizations such as The Wilderness Society\, Georgia Forestwatch\, Georgia Conservancy\, Nature Conservancy\, Trees Atlanta\, Park Pride\, Georgia Native Plants Society\, West Atlanta Watershed Watershed Alliance\, South River Watershed Alliance\, Friends of Parks groups and many others. She has additionally consulted on tree and greenspace projects with officials\, staff and neighborhood leaders in the City of Atlanta\, DeKalb County\, City of Decatur\, City of Brookhaven\, and City of Tucker. As Director of Eco-A (Eco-Addendum) Kathryn currently designs and directs programs for on-site\, environmental education for children\, adults and families; ecology-based restoration plans for public and private greenspaces\, and education for municipal leaders on methods to preserve native trees and natural areas as part of sustainable community planning and development programs.(EcoAddendum.org) \nKathryn Kolb is also known for her distinctive work as a fine art photographer of natural forms and landscapes\, and her photographs are found in prominent regional collections and public venues throughout the US. (KathrynKolb.com)
